Nowadays, the market of lactoferrin and lactoperoxidase is still limited to a few countries like Japan and some Asian countries. Since 2000, the market has been taking off, essentially for cosmetic applications in Japan and Korea. In Japan, where the market initially started with infant formula, it is now all dairy products and a large array of food supplements that use lactoferrin (e.g. yogurts), which let envisage a sustainable growth in the next years. In Europe and in the US, the market is just starting, but some big players such as DMV are doing an important effort in terms of marketing and communication (articles in the press or during professional exhibitions) on lactoferrin. Promising messages are linked to lactoferrin : Iron transport - Stimulation of immune system - Health of intestinal mucosa This is also linked with the trend for natural products that are taking more and more importance in food products. Moreover, the nutraceuticals market is in development (PUFAS, -carotene, probiotics, ...) All these points tend to indicate that the lactoferrin market will further develop in the near future.
